Leave for Anuradhapura, the first capital of ancient Sri Lanka and the most sacred town in Sri Lanka. Visit the Sri Maha Bodiya which is the oldest documented tree in the world, believed to be over 2500 years old.
The sapling was brought from India and ever since it has been a national treasure. Visit Mihintale where Buddhism was first introduced to Sri Lanka. Also see the remains of many palaces, royal pleasure gardens, Isurumuniya Temple and dagobas.

Leave for Sigiriya. Climb the Sigiriya Rock Fortress now declared as the 8th world wonder. This was the hideout of the rebel King Kassapa. The amazing irrigation system is breathtaking with a water pool right on top of the rock. It also has a natural cooling system. See the famous frescoes of the Sigiriya maidens, mirror wall with it’s graffiti, audience hall etc.
