Full of breathtaking natural, historic, and religious monuments. There are many incredible things to do in Dambulla, and not a beach in the vicinity.

Although Dambulla isn't the greatest spot to stay in Sri Lanka, it does offer a number of intriguing attractions.

Sigiriya Rock Fortress

One of the most wonderful activities in Sri Lanka is visiting Sigiriya, also referred to as Lion Rock. Home to an old stronghold perched on a 200-meter-high volcanic plateau, the location offers breathtaking views from the summit but requires some effort to reach. As part of our Private Tour package for Sri Lanka, spend a day exploring the stronghold in the sky, which is a 30-minute drive from Dambulla.

Because of the difficult hike to the top, you should allow yourself around 30 minutes to explore this UNESCO World Heritage site! Dambulla is thirty minutes away by car from Lion Rock. Because lodging is somewhat more reasonably priced in Dambulla, visitors frequently decide to stay overnight.

Pidurangala Rock

If you want a different perspective of Lion Rock, then you’ll find it at Pidurangala. This rocky outcrop offers a perfect view of the fortress in the sky and some pretty special photography opportunities too.

There are fewer tourists since Pidurangala is a more difficult climb because there isn't a sufficient stairway.Pidurangala is best enjoyed at sunrise when the horizon puts on a pretty spectacular show.

Avkana Lord Buddha Statue

About an hour's drive from Dambulla lies the standing Buddha statue known as Avukana Buddha. The figure is more than twelve meters tall and was carved out of a big granite block! Due to its relative anonymity, local tourists are the ones who visit the Avukana Buddha monument more often than tourists from other countries. We strongly advise going there along with the Yapahuwa Rock Fortress.

Kalu Diya Pokuna

Kalu Diya Pokuna, which is surrounded by Sri Lanka's unparalleled natural beauty, is another incredibly serene location. Trekking through the verdant woods will greet you with the waters of Kalu Diya Pokuna, a black pond.

The remnants of an old Buddhist monastery can be found at Kaludiya Pokuna (Black Water Pond), an archaeological forest site that was first populated about 200 BC.

Yapahuwa Rock Fortress

Yapahuwa Rock Fortress 100-meter-tall rock fortress is a treasure from the nation's medieval past, towering over the surrounding terrain. Though most tourists don't visit Yapahuwa because of its rich regional tradition, it is nevertheless well worth a visit.

Yapahuwa was the original location of the Buddha's Sacred Tooth Relic, which is currently housed at Kandy's Temple of the Tooth!
